Into The Fire
This book covers the period between when Calvinism first made it's move as a distinctive form of religious discontent and follows it, in a series of excellent essays, through to the period of it's solidification and uncontested leadership of the Protestant international movement. Readable and informative. One of the best books on the subject in print.

Tremendous Scope and Depth of this Fascinating Period
Very well-written, fascinating treatment of this important period in history. Shows the importance of the Persian Empire and its influence on the Greek and Mediterranean empires than came afterward. The book manages to cover a great deal of material rather efficiently -- a must-have for anyone who wishes to seriously expand their understanding of civilization.

The Canvas Cathedral : A Complete History of Evangelism from the Apostle Paul to Billy Graham
Published in Hardcover by W Publishing Group (17 December, 2002)
Author: Dr. Lewis Drummond
Average review score:

A Carefully Researched Presentation of Billy Graham
To cover the work of Billy Graham's 60 year ministry is a formidable task. The author in his presentation examines Billy Graham's work from the historical perspective, going back to the first chapter of Genesis and giving a survey of evangelism from that time on. He is a serious student of the Bible and stresses memorizing scripture. Prayer is a vital part of Billy Graham's life. No other man has preached to as many people as Graham has but the author is quick to point out that Grahm works in a context of support provided by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Assoc (BGEA). Graham has been the intimate confident of presidents ane other leaders. Interesting little known facts are also to be found.

The book provides detailed information about Billy Graham, his methods, his message, and his day-to-day practice of his faith from his perspective.

Car Talk: A Lexicon of Automobile and Motorcycle Slang by the Author of Hockey Talk
Published in Paperback by Robert Davies Pub (July, 1998)
Authors: Jim Poteet and Lewis J. Poteet

car and motorcycle slang in print
As one of the authors, I know the book well, and am not so much reviewing as sharing how it has been made. Brother Jim, a freelance mechanic in Austin, TX for a quarter century and more, and I published an early version ourselves in 1992, and it is the first guide to the real spoken slang of car, truck, and motorcycle slang--not complete, but stimulating and authentic. It is finally widely available, and its word-list is a key-word guide to the car culture. Lewis J. Poteet

Case for Gold: A Minority Report of the United State Gold Commission
Published in Paperback by Cato Inst (September, 1982)
Author: Ron and Lewis Lehrman Paul
Average review score:

Ron Paul's Report of the U.S. Gold Comission
This book first written in the early 1980's by the honorable Congressman from Texas and Lewis Lehrman discusses the feasibility of bringing back the gold standard. Moreover, Paul makes the case for the gold standard and the case for abolishing the Federal Reserve, which has to its credit: a Great Depression, bloated government growth, skyrocketing public and private debt, stagnating economic growth, and an inflationary boom in the 1970's.

Amidst, rampant inflation of the 1970's, a skyrocketing deficit... Things didn't look so good and a number of business and political leaders seriously enterained and supported the idea of reverting back to the gold standard. Sooner or later the financial institutions and fiat money cartel will abuse its power of the press and inflate us into another depression. Perhaps then instead of migrating to a world bank and currency structure, we will kill the fiat money machine once and for all.

Lastly consider these words: "Under a gold standard, the amount of credit that an economy can support is determined by the economy's tangible assets, since every credit instrument is ultimately a claim on some tangible asset. But government bonds are not backed by tangible wealth, only by the government's promise to pay out of future tax revenues... A large volume of new government bonds can be sold to the public only at progressively higher interest rates. Thus, government spending under a gold standard is severely limited.... In the absence of a gold standard, there is no way to protect savings from confiscation through inflation.... This is the shabby secret of the welfare statists' tirades against gold. Deficit spending is simply a scheme for the hidden confiscation of wealth. Gold stands in the way of this insidious process..." Moreover, the author also makes it known that the gold standard wouldn't have the prolonged economic distortions and vicious boom-and-bust cycles that fiat money systems have. Who was the author? None other than Alan Greenspan in an essay called Gold and Economic Freedom. When Greenspan, the Federal Reserve Chief, is face-to-face with Ron Paul... in the back of his head, he knows Paul is right and that the central bank is wrong!

caught
The book CAUGHT by Willo Davis Roberts was an exciting and thrilling book. It was about two teenagers, Vickie and Joanie, who ran away to their fathers house in California, only to find their father isn't there or the night after. They soon befriended a neighbor and began a quest to find their father. I recommend this book for ages twelve and up who like mystery and adventure books.

Centrality of the Cross: Notes of Addresses on the Finished Work of Christ at Calvary Incorporating "the Logos of the Cross
Published in Paperback by Christian Literature Crusade (June, 1993)
Author: Jessie Penn-Lewis
Average review score:

A must read for everyone who is truly serious about Christ.
Of all of the books I've read over the years, perhaps the most influencial book in my life next to the Bible is The Centrality of the Cross. I would highly recomend this book if you're truly serious about living your faith. This book covers the very essence of true dicipleship; and outlines its costs as well. The subject is thouroughly and wonderfully discussed in each of the crosses many facets. The Centrality of the Cross is not a quick read. Each page is packed with challenging material to stretch your faith. It is a book that you will read again and again. Each time you will gain more from it. This book, like the Bible, never grows old.
